FAMOUS FEATURE Motegi’s unique twin-track layout means that the road course (the one used for motorcycle racing) crosses under the oval course twice: once between turns 4 and 5, and again between turns 11 and 12.
TRIVIA Motegi gets its name from the two (“twin") track sets—the oval Super Speedway and the twisting Road Course—and the circular “ring" layout.
The Super Speedway, an American-style 1.5-mile (2.4-km) oval, has been used by the Indy Car series, while the Road Course is European in styling, and used much more often. Several major racing events take place at Motegi, including the MFJ Superbike race and MotoGP.
The two tracks can run separate events concurrently; better still, by opening roadways between turns 2 and 13, and 12 and 3, the Road Course can also be divided into two smaller tracks for junior events—an 11-turn East Road Course, and a 6-turn West Road Course.
Aside from its real-world fandom, Motegi has featured in a number of racing video games, and was part of the opening credits for the Japanese TV show Kamen Rider Agito.
