TRIVIA First opened in 1972, this track gained fame as the host of the San Marino MotoGP races from 1985 to 1987. Its layout has been altered on and off since 1993 to add facilities and to allow alternate race loops. Despite its multiple curves and hairpin turns, it's a fast ride; in 2007, Ducati racer Casey Stoner set a track record of 1 minute, 33.918 seconds.
Originally Circuito Internazionale Santamonica, named for the region in which the track was built, this course was renamed Misano World Circuit in 2006. The name of a local racer, Marco Simoncelli, was added in 2012 as a memorial after his death during a Malaysian GP race the previous year.
Open 320 days out of the year, Misano not only offers a complex racetrack and space for 60,000 spectators, but also the Santamonica Sporting Restaurant, an elegant dining establishment complete with its own swimming pool.
